Project: West Gate Tunnel Project – West Zone Soil Nail Wall, Melbourne
Client: Geotechnical Engineering
Spacer Model: GT 20
Kwik-ZIP GT 20 model spacers are being utilised by Geotechnical Engineering as internal spacers for their sheathed soil nails. The sheathed soil nails are being installed on the West Zone Soil Nail Wall as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project in Melbourne.
The West Gate Tunnel, originally known as the Western Distributor, is a 5-kilometre toll road currently under construction in Melbourne, Australia, to link the West Gate Freeway at Yarraville with the Port of Melbourne and CityLink at Docklands via twin tunnels beneath the inner-city suburb of Yarraville.
The West Zone Soil Nail Wall involves the construction of five Soil Nail Shotcrete Walls with approximately 2,624 soil nails varying in length from 4.0m to 8.5m.
Kwik-ZIP GT 20 model spacers are utilised within the construction of the sheathed soil nails prior to installation on site. The spacers are secured at 1.0m spacings to the soil nail bar (N20 and N24 bar) to centralise the bar within the 65/85 HDPE corrugated sheathing prior to grouting.
“The structure of the GT-20 spacers allow for a smooth and easy installation of the bars into the corrugated sheathing” – Nadine van Grootveld: Project Engineer – Geotechnical Engineering.
